Alex Van Halen

For more than 40 years, Alex Van Halen has delivered his big grooves, from behind his big kits as the foundation for the big sound of Van Halen. Front men have come and gone but Alex has been a constant, devoting his entire career to the group that he cofounded with brother Eddie in 1972.

 

With a father who was an accomplished reed player, Alex was trained as a classical pianist and was actually a guitarist with brother Eddie on drums. He soon eclipsed Eddie’s drumming skills and their switch of instruments became a natural transition.

 

Influenced by Ginger Baker, Keith Moon and John Bonham, Alex is known for his bigger than life performances featuring impressive drum solos and stage pyrotechnics. Today Alex Van Halen continues to perform and record with Van Halen delighting the audiences around the world.
